Enterprise Vault 6.0, Enterprise Vault Download on client???

I'm stepping in the middle of an issue with an important client so I'm trying to find a quick and painless resolution.  Also I'm new at supporting Enterprise Vault.  Our client has Enterprise Vault 6.0 SP4 installed.  As far as I know there is only one user experiencing this issue.  The policy for the mailboxes are set to archive anything older than 6 months.  This particular user has a 4gb mailbox despite that policy being in place.  On the workstation, Windows XP, Outlook 2003, Enterprise Vault 6.0 Lite Client installed through GPO.  When he launches Outlook an Enterprise Vault Download window appears disrupting his work and attempts to download 5Gb of data.  I need to find out why this window appears, what it's trying to download, why and where it's trying to download to.  From my understanding the client is installed just so the end user can search the Vault...maybe that isn't the case.  When this window opens it consumes outlook.exe and pushes the process over 200mb according to Task Manager.  I'm waiting on a call back from Symantec, but any help would be appreciated.

It sounds like the user is enabled for Offline Vault. Take a look at this Technote, http://support.veritas.com/docs/287454. You can then check it and if needed disable it.

This Technote, http://support.veritas.com/docs/291101, shows where in the policy you can enable it.

Worth reading about Offline Vault in the Install Guide or Admin Guide.

Hope that helps,

Thanks for the reply.  I had actually talked to Symantec before your reply and was told the same thing.  Sure enough someone had turned on Offline Archive for the whole Exchange organization.
