We are testing the FSA functionality of EV and it looks good. The problem we are having is with moving (migrating) placeholders to new servers. This has to work perfectly otherwise we can't file archiving because one of our requirements is that it be as transparent to the users as possible. I've had little success with migrating placeholders using the fsautility. It will work once, then not work anymore until I fudge around with it for a while. Either the placeholders would be corrupt or the command would error. I am testing a small folders.
We want to implement on 5 T of data shares with about 10 million files and thousands of subfolders. Now I found the below support documents that present several other scenarios where migrated placeholders will be corrupt like if a user renames or moves a placeholder to a different folder. The other doc talks about having to run the command line at the subfolder level???

So my question is has anyone ever successfully migrated placeholders to a new file server in a production environment?
Then there's the whole question of what to do when you loose a fileserver.....(restored placeholders from backups are corrupt for us - using Symantec very own backupexec!)
Also, does anyone know of other file archiving products that might work better. We evaluated Commvault 3 years ago and abandoned them because of similar 'stub' file issue. Maybe they've improved? Symantec would NOT give us an evaluation version of EV and we purchased in a beget crunch (use it or loose it.)
Thanks,
Adam
