Index service not starting

We have a new EV environment in which the index service has stopped and not able to start EV 10.0.4 for Microsoft Exchange Windows 2008 R2 Error message: An unexpected error has occurred. Error Summary: Indexing Service start up error Error Details: Filename: \\?\C:\Program Files (x86)\Enterprise Vault\EVIndexing\www\asp\web.config Line number: 15 Error: This configuration section cannot be used at this path. This happens when the section is locked at a parent level. Locking is either by default (overrideModeDefault="Deny"), or set explicitly by a location tag with overrideMode="Deny" or the legacy allowOverride="false". The issue seems to have resolved after windows update was run and .net was updated.

Can you try to reset indexing engine http://www.symantec.com/docs/HOWTO59060 then restart EV indexing engine and try to restart indexing service.

Your IIS configuration settings section is locked. To unlock them, run following

The following command will unlock this section globally. (Run as Administrator)

%windir%\system32\inetsrv\appcmd.exe unlock config -section:system.webServer/security/requestFiltering

This did not resolve issue.
