Restored archived emails and then couldn't send emails

I restored all archived emails for someone due to some political issues. After the restore, the user couldn't send any emails due to the mailbox limit. Before doing the restore, I already removed his mailbox limit in Active Directory. I just unchecked the "use mailbox store defaults" box and left everything blank. I thought this would give the user unlimited storage? no?

How big is the mbx and what version?
