Upgrade of Vault from version 7 sp4 to version 9

I want to upgrade Vault version 7 sp4 to version 9. I would like to do this on a new server. Was  going to install the 2007 version on the new server and then do the upgrade to v8 and then ver 9  however I cannot install ver 7  vault software onto server 2008 as it will not let me install Server 2003 esm.

So any suggestions on the best way to handle this upgrade please.

Should I stick with server 2003 install on new server then install ver 7 sp 4 and upgrade to ver 8 in place or is there a faster way to build new server with vault version 8 and somehow port the 2003 install over to 2008?

Any help much appreciated

If it were me I would to the inplace upgrade to EV 2007 then EV 8 and maybe even EV 9 on the current hardware and then move EV 9 to the new server.

Glenn Martin did a nice blog about moving to new hardware:

You could also use a 3rd party tool to migrate lock stock etc. Something like TransVault or ArchiveShuttle.
