Hi, I know this has been asked before, but how do I get Symantec to run in Safe Mode with networking? My computer has gotten infected with the faux antivirus program Antivirus Action. The program prevents me from opening any of my files including Symantec in normal mode. Symantec is provided by my school to all of its students, but so we don't allow family to download it, we only get one download. I have tried using Lavasoft Ad-aware, also provided by my school, but that hasn't solved the problem.

In Safe mode SEP will say that Auto Protect is malfunctioning , but if you run a full scan, it will run. So please run a Full scan in safe mode with the latest defs

Try scanning with the latest Rapid Release definitions.

If you cannot get Symantec to run in safe-mode, try the Power Eraser Tool.

If that fails to rid your system of the infection try the SERT tool.

I also recommend running a Disk Cleanup (right-click the C drive, Properties, Disk Cleanup) - that will delete all the files that are in these temporary locations, as well as IE's temporary files, etc.

Keep us posted on your progress.
