On Thursday, March 15th, Veritas’ WAVE Employee Resource Group (ERG) in Heathrow attended the Professional Women's Luncheon by the Seminole County Regional Chamber of Commerce.
During the event, the chamber brought together women from Seminole County to discuss their careers and professional goals, beginning with an introduction from a representative from Seminole Hospital, providing details on their Women’s Center and its state of the art mammography department.
Then, Jodi Bainter took the stage to share a personal story, in which her and her husband’s 3-year-old son was injured in a lawn mowing accident. After multiple surgeries, including necessary tissue donation and reconstruction, they finally made the difficult decision to amputate the leg.
It was an emotional story, and the intensity of Mrs. Bainter’s words appeared to be felt by all event attendees. We even joked among the group that Seminole Hospital could have handed-out tissues as an event giveaway, particularly when Mrs. Bainter was joined on stage by her husband and their now seventeen-year-old son.
Bainter has published a book about her family’s journey and founded Limbs Matter – a PSA and marketing campaign promoting lawn mower safety with the primary message of “Keep kids inside when mowing the lawn.”
Those of us in the Veritas Heathrow office are grateful for the opportunity to attend the chamber luncheon in support of WAVE, and learn together of the Bainter family’s resilience. Thank you to the HRO leadership team for making community events like this one available to employees at Veritas; just a part of what makes #LifeAtVeritas so inspiring.
