NB5220 does not boot!

Have problem booting new appliance. - It does hang in the "Symantec Splash-meny" where you can select ESC,F2,F10,12. - Hangs here forever.

A ticket is opened at Symantec support days ago.....

The appliance was reimaged weeks ago, support and myselves have rechecked the contents fo the bios setup a dusin times. After changing "everything" back and forth and rebooted a dusin times, it was left idle for two weeks vacation. Coming back, I rechecked Hard disk boot options, and got it to work ok.

Rebooted three times, OK, and ran the FactoryReset script... and back to square one. Rechecked bios setup several times.

Then got a new appliance from Symantec, and also this one did not boot. Taken straight of of the box, just eth0,2,3,4,5 and power attached.

(guess they run a factoryreset before shipping them...)

The problem are seen on two newer appliances, our old nb5220 does NOT behave like this.

My inhouse/demo/lab appliance can stand a reimage and the Factoryreset script without this problem.

Anyone seen this?

When the NB5220 appliance is without the diskshelf it may hang in the "Splashmenu" forever.

(wher you can select ESC,F2,F10 or F12) even showing correct boot devices in the BIOS setup.

If you connect and power up the diskshelf, and then the appliance, it will go further, but stops with a blinking cursor. (like it tries to boot from wrong disk device).

Enter the Setup, you'll find that 'Boot Disk Order' now has changed.

Go to Boot Option.

Boot Option #1 is  now changed to [(Bus0F Dev00)Intel...]

and

'Hard Disk Order' is now changed to [(Bus0F Dev00)Intel...]

Change 'Hard Disk Order' settings to : [ICHx/ESB2 Embedded...]

and the Boot Option #1 does change to [ICHx/ESB2 Embedded...] by itselves.

F10 , Save and Reset......   Now booting OK.

Verified on two new boxes.

An older appliance (hardware) does not behave like this.

I have seen this on new or freshly reimaged appliances. Once you get it setup and configured properly, it will move past the splash screen automatically and continue to boot. Try it again after the configuration and see if it is working again.

The first appliance was configured mediaserver and joined the backup environment two times. Both times, it needed help to reboot. The second one came shipped with 2.5.2,-  so not yet joined to the 7.5.0.4 master.
