The log files suggest that the client is having problems making an NFS connection to the media server.

What operating system and what version of NetBackup is running on the client?

What operating system and what version of NetBackup is running on the media server?

Is the NFS Client component installed on the client and set to a startup type of either "Automatic" or "Manual" (not "Disabled")?

If the media server is a Windows computer, is the NFS Server component installed and running?

Are there any firewalls running on the client, on the media server, or between the client and media server?

Can the client resolve the hostname of the media server via the ping and nslookup commands?

media server:windows enterprise 64 bit sp2
client :windows 2003 R2 DP2
Both 6.5.4
nfs client component has been installed on the client and is automatic.
Nfs server has been not installed on the client as according to the doc it says that it doesnt need to be installed isnt it?
port 7394 for nbfs has been opened from client to media server
yes the hostname of the media server can be resolved.

What specific version of Windows is running on the media server?  Windows Server 2003, Windows Server 2003 R2, or Windows Server 2008?

You are correct, the NFS Server component does not need to be installed on the NetBackup client computer.  However, it does need to be installed on the NetBackup media server.  Is it installed on the media server?

You mentioned that you have opened port 7394 for nbfs between the client and the media server, which implies that there is a firewall between the NetBackup client and the NetBackup media server.  Have you also opened the common ports used by NFS (2049/tcp, 2049/udp, 369/tcp, 369/udp, 111/tcp, 111/udp) between the NetBackup client and the NetBackup media server?

This is the documet iam referring to ftp://exftpp.symantec.com/pub/support/products/NetBackup_Enterprise_Server/318350.pdf

It says on pg 105 that if it is a media server only the RPC portions should be installed. Can you please clarify on that.

And the ports mentioned by you have not been opened.
Is there a complete list of ports that need to be opened somehere in a document?
The windows client version windows2003 stanadrd server R2 SP2

What OS is running on your Netbackup media server?  In your post above, you mention that it's "windows enterprise 64 bit sp2", but this doesn't tell us whether it's Windows Server 2003, Windows Server 2003 R2, or Windows Server 2008.

I understand that your NetBackup client (the AD server that you're trying to restore data to) is running Windows Server 2003 Standard Edition R2 SP2, which is a valid choice for using the Granular Recovery Technologies.  Have you installed the NFS hotfix referenced in the document on your NetBackup client computer?

Try opening the ports listed above and see if the restore job works.

FYI

I am setting this up for the time , so it is not a restore , i am trying to do an AD granular backup for the first time.
My media server is R2.I have installed the hotfix as well.

So does the medis server ned the nfs portion ad is there a document showing the list of ports?
