We have master server (7.6.0.1) on SUSE Linux. Client on MS Windows 2008.

And we've got the trouble with backup selection and non-english cars.

Job log:

Where "D:\ \" is backup selections with non-english chars. When I try to change selection for example to "D:\Temp" all works fine.

Any ideas?

Which language?

I guess its Russian Cyrillic

Info bpbrm (pid=38890) from client adcs02.irro.ru: TRV

While the Netbackup 7.6 release notes in chapter "NetBackup internationalization and localization notes" does not mention file paths I guess this issues will fall in the "not supported" category.

From the release notes:

  • Specific NetBackup user-defined strings must not contain non-US ASCII characters

http://www.symantec.com/docs/DOC6138

If possible put the directory with special characters below a directory with "pure" US characters and specify "pure" path in Netbackup (d:\data according to exampel below)

So

d:\jordbærgrød med fløde\

become:

d:\data\jordbærgrød med fløde\

hi, Non-US ASCII character is allowed in Data Selection in policy. So this should be another issue. Can you create a policy with user backup schedule, and choose the same path and initiate backup from client, to see if the backup is ok? NOTES: accelerator backup is only supported for full and incremental schedule types. Thanks

Yep!

Non-US ASCII character is allowed in Data Selection in policy.

It's working with another installation - master server on WIndows 2008 and client on Windows 7.

May be problem in SUSE Linux?

Possible locale (language) setting ?

Could it be that the Windows box run with Russian setting while the SUSE box is configured as native English ?

We use EN version of MS Windows.

What do you mean about SUSE setting? $LANG for root account?

nbu-s1:~ # echo $LANG
POSIX

Maybe we should try something like this?

nbu-s1:~ # export LANG=ru_RU.utf8

Possible somthing in that direction (try it out). Just ensure the Shell start start Netbackup has the language setting set correctly. The issue here is unicode (at least I think).

Pls take a look at this thread as well.

I've tried to change default locale to ru_RU.utf8. It did not help ((

Possible somthing in that direction (try it out).

I don't think so. When I use selection like "D:\*" or "ALL_LOCAL_DRIVE" this dirs backup and restore correctly.

How do you enter the file path into Netbackup - copy & past or entered manual (see the link in my previous post).

What GUI do you use for the SuSE box - Windows GUI or Windos Java GUI ?

Does the string look right in the GUI or is it

Copy & paste.

Both.

When I fill the backup selection field string looks right.

On my red hat server using Netbackup 7.6 i tried creating a directory in /home with the name of æøå. Backup ran successful, however the file path in Windows Java  GUI (activity monitor)  showed Ã¦Ã¸Ã¥ instead of æøå.

My last advice would be pasting the string into notepad++ before pasting into Netbackup to ensure no special charters sneak thou.
