Backup ends up on error 24 on a specific media server

Hello,

We have 4 media servers (e.g. media01, media02, media03 and media04) on our environment. A client ends up on error 24 when it is media02. Any ideas on what to check and how to troubleshoot?

For the client that fails on media2, does this same client fail on ay other media server.

Does that media server fail with any other clients

Where in the jobs does it fail, beginning, end, middle ?  Does it always fail in the same place and in the same way.

Is that client (that fails) on the same network as other clients that don't fail.

Has the client just had any patches or other changes - if this was working before, then something has changed ....

What type of backup is it (filesystem, Oracle etc )

What is the OS of the client and media server

Generally speaking, you cannot easily solve status 24 from NetBackup logs - status 24 happens when a network connect between (in this case) the media server and client is established, but then is broken.  It is not a NetBackup issue, it's a network issue.

It's worth checking the logs between the media and client to confirm that both processes (bpbkar and bptm or bpbrm  probably) see the connection break as opposed to just one side, just in case it's caused by a process crashing, which is probably not that likely, but to cover all possibilities, worth checking.

Other than that, my recommendation these days is to gather a TCP dump at both ends, and get a tame network engineer to take a look in Wireshark.
