Client-Side Deduplication-Doubts

Hi,

I have the below listed doubts while goingthrough the NBU Client-Side deduplication.

http://www.symantec.com/business/support/index?page=content&id=DOC3657

1) While Deduplicating client backup to a PureDisk storage, The client deduplication plug-in retrieves a list of fingerprints from the last full
backup for the client from the NetBackup Deduplication Engine (As per Symantec Netbackup Deduplication Guide: Unix,Windows,Linux-->Figure10-5). But in the figure there is no NetBackup Deduplication Engine on Media Server.

This statement and Figure really confusing me. Kindly confirm whether the dedupe plug-in retrieves the Last full backup information from NetBackup Deduplication Engine on Media Server or from PureDisk Storage Pool directly ?.

2) After performing deduplication plug-in file fingerprinting calculations, has deduplication plug-in  @ Client End sends only unique data segments to the PureDisk storage pool directly without any Media Server interference ?

When using a PDDO a client will both read and writes direct to the PDDO. The SPAD process will not run on the media server.  Media server will however have processes related to client backup running.

And yes, the documentation could be better.
