You have mentioned alternate client.

Are you using device hardware snapshots or VxVM?

Which snapshot method is specified in the policy? Best to specify and not rely on auto.

Your bpfis log seems to suggest VxVM. Have you tested to see if you can manually snapshot the volume, split the diskgroup, deport on source client and then import on destination client?

We have found when using VxVM snapshot method for alternate client backups that source and alternate client MUST be on same NBU version.

Hi,

As i can understand that there is a  Windows NetBackup 6.5 client fails with status code 156,

as in the logs:-

********

Dec 14, 2011 10:21:12 AM - Critical bpbrm (pid=988) from client gaalpa1cdfile03.itservices.sbc.com: FTL - snapshot creation failed, status 156

***************

******

This indicates that the client is using Windows Open File Backups to protect open or active files. The volume "snapshot" that occurs to facilitate open file backup has failed. This failure is often caused by the VSP/VSS cache file running out of allocated space.

For Volume Shadow Copy (VSS) (Windows 2003 Only):
Use the following steps to increase the cache size when VSS is used on Windows 2003 Server clients.
1. In Windows, double-click My Computer and select The drive being backed up ...
2. Select Shadow Copies from the drive properties.
3. Select the volume on which to make changes, and then click the Settings button

4. In the Settings dialog box, change the Maximum Size setting to either No Limit or a size large enough to suit the requirements of the installation and usage of VSS.

See if it help...

Thanks.

Hi

I checked the policy , it is using the Flashsnap method.

and its setting as per below

Keep Snapshot after Backup : No

Resynchronize Mirror in Background: No

Maximum Snapshots :2

Number of times to retry disk group Split : 0

Delay in seconds Between Disk group split : 0

Maximum number of volumes to resynchronize : 0

Sync region size in MB : 0

Sync i/O delay in miliseconds : 0

"Resynchronize Mirror in Background: No"

How are your mirrors getting syncronized?

Can you see in VEA that the mirrors are Snap Ready?

Have you tried to manually do the snapshot and split of diskgroup on source client, deport diskgroup and import on media server? Then deport again, import again on source join diskgroup and snapback?

These are the steps that NBU needs to perform - if you can do all of this manually, the snapshot offhost backup should work.

Hi ,

Please, provide the bptm log from the media servers that froze the media: <Install_dir>\VERITAS\NetBackup\logs\bptm. (from windows system)

The bptm log from the media servers that froze the media: /usr/openv/netbackup/logs/bptm (From Solaris system)

Is there any event logs generated in the client windows.

Thanks.
