Hello Guys,

I am trying to get the drive status by running the following on the media server and am getting the error:

#usr/openv/netbackup/bin >vmoprcmd -d
EMM database error (196)

this is the version on the media server.
#/usr/openv/netbackup/bin >more version
NetBackup-HP-UX11.23 6.5.3

i used to get the error : Network Protocol Error 39 .so i restarted the services ont he media server. From then onwards i am getting this EMM database error(196).

Any idea why this is caused and what is the solution for the same?

Thanks,
Rupert

also below mentioned document looks quite close to issue

Jobs error out with status code 196 due to Enterprise Media Manager (EMM) refusing connections

Normally these kind error is normal in SSO environment.  When media server is constently in touch with EMM database for devices.

Try this

Bring down the netbackup services on all the media servers and the master server including PBX server has to be brought down.  If you issue bpps -x you should not see any services running.  Restart all the services in order:

1.  Bring PBX service up on master
2.  Bring netbackup service up on master
3.  Bring PBX service up on media servers
4.  Bring netbackup services on master.
