My Master server E drive is very low on disk space.
A quick review shows I have HotCatalogBackups from 6 months ago.
can I delete these files?

The question is:
Are these the DR files produced after each hot catalog backup?
OR
Are these actual Catalog backups themselves?

** If the path is the one indicated in the "Path" field of the Disaster Recovery tab of the Hot Catalog policy, then you're referring to the DR file produced after each hot catalog backup. The folder will have files like this:

HotCatalog_1262441151_FULL
HotCatalog_1262613646_INCR
HotCatalog_1262700046_INCR

In which case you can simply delete these once their images have expired, or you can move them somewhere else. (even to another server) These files are not automatically cleaned up by the server.

** If the path is the from the storage unit and contains files like this:

bkprod02_1262700025_C1_F1.1262700025.img
bkprod02_1262700025_C1_F1.1262700025.info
bkprod02_1262700025_C1_HDR.1262700025.img
bkprod02_1262700025_C1_HDR.1262700025.info
bkprod02_1262700046_C1_F1.1262700046.img
bkprod02_1262700046_C1_F1.1262700046.info
bkprod02_1262700046_C1_HDR.1262700046.img
bkprod02_1262700046_C1_HDR.1262700046.info
bkprod02_1262700046_C1_TIR.1262700046.img
bkprod02_1262700046_C1_TIR.1262700046.info

You will *have* to expire them using the bpexpdate command. Do not simply delete them or you will cause yourself other problems.
eg:
bpexpdate -backupid bkprod02_12627000 -d 0

Also, once you've expired them using bpexpdate, the files will probably still be there until the next image cleanup job. You can force a cleanup using "nbdelete -allvolumes" which will clean up expired disk based image fragments.

I hope this helps.
Luc.
