Hyper-V VMs are in saved state after backup

Hi, my master server is NBU 7.6.0.3. We are backing up VMs in a Hyper-V server. This is a single node Hyper-V server (Windows Server 2012, NBU 7.6.0.3) with a few VMs. Yesterday we found some of the VMs are placed into saved state after backup.

My question is:

1) What is the reason of this? Is it because of resource limitations?

2) If it is possbily because of resource limitations, what are the recommended resource requirements for NBU backup of Hyper-V VMs?

Thanks in advance.

Hello,

Please check this note http://www.symantec.com/docs/TECH152313

Hi Riaan, thanks for the link. We checked the items listed in the link and it seems all are OK. And it does not talk about resource requirements for NBU backups.

So are there any documents or KBs that talk about recommended resources (such as memory) from NBU's point of view for Hyper-V VM backups? If no, does it mean NBU do not have any resource requirements for Hyper-V backups?

Thanks.

Hi,

You'll have to investigate the vm's some more, its not NBU but Hyper-V that is turning the VM off because it cannot perform the snap (provide the data to NBU) whilst online.
