I have a doubt regarding vmware backups

my questions:

1. I saw in admin guide before 7.1 we need to select flashbackup-windows however in 7.6 we are selecting vmware-hyperV? why both are the same thing

2.Block level backup vs file level backup ? does CBT(changed block) is it a part of block level or is it different? Accelerator is the same thing or different?

3. While taking vmware backup is it required to add a query based client selection. I saw it manually can be done as well? is that correct?

4.Is the backup host necessary in order to backup vmbackups or if no please share a diagram other than which is mentioned in admin guide i m kinda confused with it?

5. I want to know the simplest method via diagram or a process flow of it?

I know it's a long list I read the admin guide and have confusion hence asking so many question sorry if i am wrong

3. Yes. The manual covers manual selection as well as query based selection.

4. Yes. A backup host is necessary. Because there is no sofware installed on ESX or vCenter, you need a Windows or Linux machine with NBU Client or Media server software installed where the data is read from datastores via SAN or LAN and sent to backup storage - local if backup host is also the media server.
See Overview of the VMware backup process in NBU for VMware Guide.
Figure 1-1 and 1-2 are really the simplest diagrams with explanation.
I honestly don't know how else to explain...

Hi Marianne,

I understand that there is no simplest diagram, in that diagram media/master server is showing seperately other than the host if we want to use media or master as the vmware host in that case do we need to change anything in our configuration?

A single master/media server can be the backup host. As long as it is Windows or Linux. So, all references to backup host in the manual will be your master/media server.
