*** Moved to new discussion from https://www-secure.symantec.com/connect/forums/how-lto4-change-lto6-drives-and-tapes-nbu ***
i have big trouble with the new LT06 Drive, Netbackup can reade and write only on one of the Drive, but the second Drive when start backup, go to (under Device Monitor) Control State: Down-TLD. I dont no why thies happend?
I have remove old Drive from NBU side over Java Console, and than run tpautoconf -a, stopltid and (start) ltid now.
Any idee?
Master and Media Server is SLES 10,
On the OS
scsi.bus = 0 (0x0)
scsi.host = 11 (0xb)
scsi.lun = 0 (0x0)
scsi.model = 'ULTRIUM-TD4'
scsi.target = 1 (0x1)
scsi.type = 'tape'
scsi.vendor = 'IBM'
All Drives looks so, and the Model is Ultrium-td4 and must be have ULTRIUM-TD6, so locks on the NBU side: scan

What error is logged in the messages file in /var/log
if I look at the scan command I can see:
3 tape drives (device type SDT_TAPE ) two TD4 and one TD6
From the cat /proc/scsi/scsi I can see 1 robot and 4 TD4 tape drives.
This does not look right - the OS and scan command must be the same. I recommend rebooting the host - if still the same after boot you need to take a look at the robot.
After boot - remove all devices and run the device configuration wizard.

Please show all 'scan' output
as well as output from :
cat /proc/scsi/scsi

Either reboot or run a scan of the SCSI subsystem.
Replacing drive types without letting the OS know will result in what you mention.

** unter Scan Output i still miss a TD6 Drive, white Device Name : "/dev/nst2
@Nicolai
i have run thies shell script on OS after replace all Drives.
My problem is i take "Down Drive" over the NBU Admin Console, run rescan_scsi_bus.sh and try to bring up the Drives. Now i try to remove the Drives from NBU and after, run tpautoconf -a, all another 3 Drives working perfekt, only one change state to Down-tld, whe try to write to.

Output of cat /proc/scsi/scsi does not show LTO6 drives.
Did you check again after running rescan-scsi-bus.sh? Did you try the script with additional options as per the URL?
If so and 'cat' command is still not showing correct device info, best to reboot the server.
Oh! And crossing out serial numbers is not helping at all.
I was trying to match the drive serial #s reported by the library to the tape drive output:
Drive 1 Serial Number : "FXXXXX090"
Drive 2 Serial Number : "FXXXXXX94"
Drive 3 Serial Number : "FXXXXXX00"
Drive 4 Serial Number : "FXXXXXX04"
Obviously not possible because on some output you left the last couple of digits but on others you XX'ed all of them out.
How many drives in total in the robot?
Is the output of above 4 tape drives correct?

Ok Thank you all so much, its solved. I have remove back all Drives and configure over the JGUI all new Drive and restart the Daemon "ltid". The Problem was on the config Drive 2 and the old config were not deleted.
@Nicolai that is it! OS restart run the next Time, i hope which ensures no more trouble. C pasibo!!!
