I'm getting multiple retentions per media when this option is not selected, why?

Hello All,

I'm running NetBackup Enterprise Server 6.5.3 on Solaris SPARC master server and two Solaris X86 media servers. I implement D2D2T via 4 DSSU on each of the media servers to two LTO-4 SL500 tape libraries attached to the media servers via a SAN fabric, each media server is attached to 1 drive from each library to avoid the 4Gbps bottleneck of the FC fabric.

I'm somewhat perplexed at the moment and wondered whether any fellow NetBackup pros out there could shed some light on this. I am finding that numerous tapes have images of different retention levels on them even though the "Allow Multiple Retentions per Media" is not selected on the master server or either of the media servers. This has occured since I took annual copies of my latest full backups to store outside the tape libraries using bpduplicate and changed the retention levels of these copies to 1 year, normally it is 3 months for these images. I placed these duplicate images back onto the same DSSU after increasing the maximum number of copies from 2 to 4 to allow for this copy and the additional tape copy that would automatically be generated.

There seems to be suggestions that this affected previous versions of NBU here http://seer.entsupport.symantec.com/docs/281472.htm, but there also seems to be a suggestion here http://seer.entsupport.symantec.com/docs/326455.htm (Etrack Incident = ET1107364, Associated Primary Etrack = ET1105708, Titan cases:  281-158-304) that the resource broker is not honouring this setting.

I'd be very interested to hear if anyone else is seeing this problem or whether are performing similar operation on a later version of NBU and not seeing this problem.

Thanks in advance for your help.

Regards,

Mark
