SAN client can not write to tape directly, so you have to configure FT media server on RHEL, SUSE, or SPARC Solaris server with supported HBAs. Backup data will be transferd from Hyper-V host to FT media server, then FT media server direct data to tape storage.

If you are using NBU Version 6.X then you can go for Vmware centralized backup framework.
You need to create a staging server and create storage tanks on them (allocate disk space from SAN). Using VMmount option mount the snap of the VM into the storage tank. Then the relocation happens from the storage tanks to the tape / VTL .

In NBU 7.0 and higher supports directly backing up a ESX server using the Vstorage API, which eliminates the need for the VCB server.

I have already checked this doc before, And what i really need to know ,the windows 2008 core is only supported by NB client,So if i installed the NB client on the HyperV server (2008 core) and i need to backup over SAN and backup to tape library direct,
So i must install SAN client on the HyperV server to backup over SAN and can i backup to tape direct with SAN client.
Or this solution is not recommended and there is something i missing.

Ahmad
