NBU Update to 7.1.0.1 - Failed to initialize EMM connection. (195)

Hi all,

today i update our NBU environment from 7.0.1 to 7.1 and then to 7.1.0.1. Our Master Server is running on Solaris 10 x86 and the Media Server on Solaris 10 SPARC. The update to 7.1 was successful and all services are up and running and working well. After upgrade to 7.1.0.1 i facing the following problem:

I check the bp.conf on the media and master server:

Did you restart pbx as well?

Please try the following:

Stop NetBackup: /usr/openv/netbackup/bin/bp.kill_all
Stop pbx: /opt/VRTSpbx/bin/vxpbx_exchanged stop

Start pbx: /opt/VRTSpbx/bin/vxpbx_exchanged start
Start NetBackup: /usr/openv/netbackup/bin/bp.start_all

Post output of 'bpps -x'

Do you have the 7.1.0.1 installation log? Please see if you can locate it and post, please.

I hope that you've logged a Sev 1 support call by now?

You can see that nbemm is not running on the master. Does it start initially and then 'die' afterwards?

Pleas check emm log for errors:

vxlogview -o 111 -t ##:##:##

Provide enough time with -t to catch last startup attempt. Easiest will be to stop and start NBU again. If nbemm dies again, check log for last 5 minutes:  vxlogview -o 111 -t 00:05:00

(No errors in installation log on master).

./nbdbms_start_server located in /usr/openv/db/bin.

You may be able to see in clear text why EMM doesn't start as intended.

Resolution:
Windows:

From a command prompt, change to the <install_path>\veritas\netbackup\bin\ directory, and then run:

nbdb_upgrade -v

Then run:

nbdb_upgrade -dbn NBDB

UNIX:

From a command prompt, change to the /usr/openv/db/bin directory, and then run:

nbdb_upgrade -v

Then run:

nbdb_upgrade -dbn NBDB

Both commands should finish successfully.

Seems database upgrade was somehow skipped during the upgrade process.

Please stop NBU and try this:

 /usr/openv/db/bin/nbdbms_start_stop start

 /usr/openv/db/bin/nbdb_ping

/usr/openv/db/bin/nbdb_upgrade -dbn NBDB

I honestly don't know - I have not yet upgraded to 7.1.0.1 (or know anybody who has!). 

I was actually looking for the database upgrade in the installation log but could not find it. Since there was no error, I thought that this patch did not need a database upgrade since this is only a patch and not a release update. EMM log proved that database needed to be upgraded...

Hopefully you have logged a call with Symantec? If this is a bug, they need to know about it!
