NDMP tape drives

Hi

I have 2 tape drives to add to my existing library, which are showing as "attached to remote host" when I try to run the Devive Configuration wizard.

THey have been presented and appear with paths in the OS but our Storage Admin thinks they may have been set up previously in Netbackup for NDMP and this needs to be "undone" in Netbackup.

Can anyone advise where to find out this info? If I look under Devices in the GUI there are no NDMP appliances present.

Thanks

Andy

it looks like you need to find this with your internal doucmentation about the NDMP host

to find in netbackup check in the Netbackup GUI---> credintails to see if there is any NDMP host registored..

show us the screenshot that you are looking at for "attached to remote host"

and also the show us the output of scan

Please tell us more about the tape library config and connection.

It is perfectly normal for the robot to be controlled by a NBU master or media server and drives then be shared between media servers and NDMP hosts or even have dedicated drives assigned to media servers and NDMP hosts.
This means that "attached to remote host" is perfectly fine.
Simply select the robot control host, the server that you will config as NDMP media server and the NDMP server when configuring devices.

Please let us know which make/model NDMP devices.
You can find detailed config info in these guides:

To see the existing NDMP tape drives:

Go To Media and Device Management-Devices- Drivers-It will list out all the tape drives configured to that Master server irrespective and verify for the NDMP hosts ...u can get the NDMP tape drivers details over there.

You can delete them(refresh the device manager service) and reconfigure these tape drives to the reqd host depending on the reqmt.

If the communication is nt reqd with nas filer ask ur storage admin to remove the zoning/cabling accordingly..

Hi All

Thanks for your replies and we have now managed to see these drives in the Device Configuration wizard after clearing out all references to NDMP servers (which were not required), deleting the special devices entries on the OS and re-running an IOSCAN.

The 2 new drives are not for NDMP but had previously been planned for NDMP so Netbackup still saw them as such.

THanks for your help.

Hi Andy!

Did you performed the procedures for the recognition of the tape devices as shown in the link below?

Hi Jonas

I managed to sort the problem out (see previous reply) but Thank You for the info - useful as I'd not used the Change Device option before.
