NB_CLT_6.5.6_<6 digit number>.tar must be installed before this
       Release Update is installed.

ie; this is a update of previous version client correct ?

I tried to get the file from fileconnect (https://fileconnect.symantec.com) but it is asking serial number , i am not sure how to get serial key from my veritas netbackup  6.5.6 Enterprise server serial number.

then they need to be downloaded from fileconnect as you've already determined.

From the following T/N
Obtaining Licensing and Installation Media

http://www.symantec.com/business/support/index?page=content&id=TECH63533

"...

A serial number is required to initiate the software download through FileConnect.   This serial number is specific to the FileConnect site and is not the product license key.  The serial number will either come with an upgrade or purchase letter.

If this information is not available, a serial number it can be procured from:

            Symantec Licensing Portal:
             https://licensing.symantec.com/acctmgmt/index.jsp
or request a FileConnect serial number through Symantec Customer Care:
             http://www.symantec.com/enterprise/support/assistance_care.jsp

If you've got Nb 6.5 first you should to install client from cd called Unix Clients 2. Then download 6.5.6 from support site. You need to download packages with CLT and JAV in file name (Clients and Java).

If your master server is *nix OS based, you should be able to push out the software from the master server....via rsh, ssh and I think FTP. This is covered in one of the manuals.

For example, I issued this after adding the client hostname 'rhel5web1'to a NBU backup policy:

/usr/openv/netbackup/bin/install_client_files ssh rhel5web1
