Always it is goog to go thru the manuals..

Earlier I have summarised few steps for another similar post --lemme copy those lines :

For Local NDMP Configuration:

1) Log on to master server.
2) Please add Netbackup NDMP licence:
Steps:
GO TO Licence Keys
click on New and add  <key>
3)Please add Credentials(It is root for NetApp)
To authorize NetBackup access to the NDMP host (from the Administration Console)
a. On the NetBackup server: under Media and Device Management > Credentials, click NDMP Hosts. Under Actions, select New > NDMP Host.
b. In the NDMP host name dialog box, enter the name of the NDMP server for NetBackup to back up.
Note: This NDMP host name is case sensitive. Whenever this host name is used, the name must be identical to the name entered here.

In the New NDMP Host dialog box, specify the following:

for ndmp Host name-It is ndmproot for Netapp:

click on Use the following credentials for this NDMP Hosts on all media servers
Provide User name
Password:

(Nas team will provide u these details)

4)Refresh the Netbackup services

Add NDMP DRIVES:
5)Once the tape drives are visble please run the device configuration wizard
Go to on the device NDMP-host and double click on change and select NDMP type of host and add the tape drives.

6)Try ping and Telnet of hostnames

7)Once everything is configured and ready Go to policy Wizard Specify the policy name and select the policy type as NDMP

Select available Policy Storage and Volume pools for policy.
And add browse the Host Name under Locally Attached Neighbourhood and select NAS host
and provide the volumes  Which u have received from Nas team.

8)Create a schedule as requested and run a test backup before performing actual backup.

Also go thru this TN for configuring NDMP credentials from Netapp console for validation credential failure-not sure hw much helpful
