Netbackup 7.1 - Slow FS backup, but fast Oracle agent?

Hello All

I have a client that has a files system backup and an Oracle agent backup.

The oracle agent backup runs at 50MBs. The file system at 200 KBs.

I have done a bpbkar to /dev/null test and this works at 50MBs.

It looks like the file system can provide the data and so can the server / network

Any ideas?

I have created verbose bpbkar and bpcd logs but they don’t reveal much.

Environment:

Master – 7.1 Redhat Linux

Media – 7.1 Redhat Linux

Client – 6.5 – Sun Solaris X86

Storage – Quantum DXI (OST)

what is the structure of your flat file?

is it a lot of smal files?

and what is the total data to be backup in flat file backup?

As per Ivan....what did you exercise bpbkar on Mark since it doesnt add up.

Looks like the usual myriad files which degrades perfomance.

Hi

Thanks for your post, i agree the small files would degrade performance (have it all over the place) in my experience this is more of a windows issue.

Gives me an Idea,

I will get the files Zipped and put into a subfolder - let’s see how that goes.

Did that test and it no better - so its not the file layout.

Silly question but are both backups (oracle and standard) using the same storage unit?

Did you test the transfer via scp/ftp to the storage unit? I know oracle works fine across the lan, just a silly troubleshooting step, you never know.

The storage units are different but do come from the same device.

The file I had created yesterday I will have ftpd to the media server and see how that goes.  

I did change the storage units with no effect.

Cool, just wanted to make sure there is no difference in the storage unit (the actual device writing to).
