Netbackup Client Bp Cannot connect to server

Hello,

I am running Netbackup 5.0 MP7. When I try to restore files from my client I'm getting an error message Cannot connect to server. I am however able to pull the client properties from the Master server. Can anyone help me out with what may be causing this problem? Any debugging I can turn on?

Thanks,
Nick

place server and clientnames in local hosts file. Check name resolution with bpclntcmd

How to verify name resolution for Veritas NetBackup (tm) systems, using the "bpclntcmd" command.

Thanks for all of the help. The problem occured when we linked two networks together on one PIX and one server DNS has two IPs. I added just one to the hosts file and that resolved the problem.

I didn't think it would have been that easy....now after I initiated the restore, it is hanging waiting for the media. No errors are being generated and through the admin console it is showing the job process still running after 2 hrs. Any idea as to where to check on this?

The Job details say:

2/11/2008 5:42:49 PM - media 000018 required
2/11/2008 5:42:49 PM - media 00001L required
2/11/2008 5:42:52 PM - restoring image hldb01.site02.mavenwire.com_1202603255
2/11/2008 5:42:53 PM - connecting
2/11/2008 5:42:53 PM - started process bptm (1052)
2/11/2008 5:42:53 PM - mounting 00001L
2/11/2008 5:42:54 PM - connected; connect time: 00:00:01

I've been using Netbackup for a few years but really never had any problems when I was using a Quantum M1500 unit. Now I'm using a Dell 132T (at a new site) and have had problems getting it working since day one.

Thanks in advance,
Nick

Ok this is strange. I have two volume groups 00_000_TLD and ---. --- appears to be assigned to the standalone which has nothing assigned and 00_000_TLD is attached to my Dell Powervault 132T. There were three tapes in the --- group, one tape I needed was the 0001L. So I tried to move it over to the 00_000_TLD group and got an error saying the volume group was full. I then removed one barcode 00004 from the 00_000_TLD group and all three tapes moved from the 00_000_TLD group while the other one moved over to the --- group.

I then tried to initiate another restore which is requiring two tapes, 00001L and 000018 both of which are in the 00_000_TLD group and nothing is happening.

Any thoughts?

I dont belive that the groups (00_000_TLD ) have anything to do with the restore.

Are the 2 tapes in question in the same library/nedia server that performed the backup? When I do a restore from a different media server, I change the entry under Master Server - General Server - Media Host Override. There may be an easier way, but my restores are so infrequent its not really a big deal.

I didnt start using NB until 5.1 so I cant say if this will apply to 5.0

I have only one media server so I'm not sure why there are multiple volume groups. They were created by the wizard. I did find the problem out though. When I tried to rescan 00001L Netbackup said that it wasn’t unique even though it really was. I deleted two other barcodes that were 00003L and 00005L and after that the restore initiated. Is it possible that the reader isn’t pulling all of the barcode digits?
