If your drive is down there is no way that netbackup can read the interal name of the media, there are two ways for netbackup to recognize medias, one is through the barcode on the tape and other that is internally writen under the header of the media, which is how NBU identifies the medias where are not under a library with a bar code reader, if your tape was writen in a library, then there is no internal name, you will need to change the header with the bplable command (always run a duplicate before doing this) check this so you can confirm
