Hello Expert,

I read somewhere that in VM RDM backup is not supported in 7.6.0.1 version and we need to install separate nbu clinets. We have some VMs and these have some LUN mappings.and these VMs Vm level backup is happening perfectly fine. Didnot check the restoration.

So pls let me know if its recommened by Symantec.

RDM backups are not allowed by Symantec NBU because it is limitation of VMware. If you perform a VMware snapshot of the VM having RDM, These RDM drives will not be available in the VM snapshot. So its not drawback of NBU.

1. You have to install NetBackup client software on the specific VMs to backup RDM and use MS-Windows or Flashbackup-Windows policy type.

2. Otherwise you can map these drives as Network drive on any alternate netbackup client and take backup using UNC path in backup selection or using bpstart_Notify and bpend_notify scripts.
