RMAN Restore from all FRAG's "Multible Copy"

Thomas_Schulz_3

Hello.

All my Oracle/RMAN backups have one copy ( FRAG1 and FRAG2 ).

FRAG1 is in a IBM Tape Library in the Location1, and
FRAG2 is in a SUN Tape Library in the Location2.

How can i tell netbackup to restore from all copies ( all FRAG's ) to speed up the restore?

Normaly the restore jobs run again the FRAG1 and the second Image ( FRAG2 ) is newer needed.

regards
Thomas

Hi Thomas,

all I know is that you can only use one copy for restore, and this is the primary copy. You can make copy 2 to primary copy, but then you can also use only this new primary copy for restore.

Hi Thomas.

I think you are mixing the Netbackup terms. A Fragment (FRAG) is a piece of data that makes a Netbackup image.

Both tech notes explain how fragment works:

What I think you are talking about is copies. Basically you have a copy of a backup in both robots and want to restore from both of them concurrent. The not so great answer is: you can't.

Netbackup always has a primary copy where restore are read. You can promote a secondary copy to a primary copy using the bpimage command.

bpimage -npc copy # -backupid backupid
