Restore of Vmware virtual machine fails with Error: cannot connect on socket

I've got windows 2003 with netbackup 6.5.3 patch 1 - i have a vcb/proxy server setup (vcb 1.5) to backup vmware machines. I can back up the vmware windows 2003 machines using mapped fullvm (2) flashbackup windows but everytime I try and do a restore I get

Error: cannot connect on socket

I'm just testing for now, I also backup the windows vmware client via normal netbackup and can do restores from those backups.

For the specify netbackup machines I'm putting

vcbproxy server dns name
vmware client
vcbproxy server dns name
flashback windows

any ideas?

thanks

Hi,

Update the hosts file.
Try using FQDNs

In the BAR GUI, try using the following:

Server to use for backups and restores: Netbackup Master server
Source Client: VMware vitual machine host name
Destination Client: Hostname of proxy server

If above doesnt resolve the problem, check the bpvmutil and bpcd logs
