Problem comes when trying to restore an Exchange Database that spans 2 tapes. It does start to read the second tape and then fails with a Socket error 24

Becky,

Just asking but did you build a new server then install exchange on this server?

Is it an old installation of exchange, meaning does it have an old database on it or is it a fresh install?

this is what i would do...

Build a new server and install a fresh new copy of exchange on it.

Start all the exchange related services.

Install netbackup client stuffage.

go to the master backup server and start the restore, make SURE you have the exchange services tuned on.

Bink

your done.

JD,
We did start with a new installation of both the OS and Exchange on the server.

We are able to restore databases as long as they do not span multiple tapes.

I am thinking that it has to do something with going from the L700 library to stand-alone drives. Just a wild guess though.

stande alone drive hummmm, I bet the one of the logs in Netbackup /usr/openv/netbackup/logs/bprd will tell you when it's time to mount the second tape.

bp.conf file should say VERBOSE=4
tail -f usr/openv/netbackup/logs/bprd

Do the restore and it should say "waiting for mount of tape bla bla bla" when its time to mount the tape.

bprd
-request daemon
-can be terminated and initiated from the admin interfaces
-responds to client and administrative requests
-restores
-backups
-archives
-"list files backed-up or archived"
-manual/immediate backups
-reread configuration database
