VMware backup flow

Hello,

Please I have a question, the backups of VMware virtual machines, through which hypervisor interface (ESXi) does the backup data flow to the NetBackup backup host? Through the management vmkernel interface or through another vmkernel interface?

Thank you!

Rafael

Hi @rafanto

On the assumption you are referring to NBD (or NBDSSL) backups, then the flow will use a VMkernel interface for data flow. He's an article where you can specify a specific interface for the backup which may assist in the requirements of the interface used.

On the otherhand if the backup is of type hotadd, then the data flow is via the backup host's (a VM) network interface (which would not be a VMkernel port).

Cheers
David
