I am possibly the person that is most resistant to change - but 5.x feels like a long-time-ago-bad-dream.

The GUI still looks the same (fortunately). Major changes were the introduction of the EMM database that centralised all media and device management. bpsched was also replaced by 3 different processes: nbpem (policy execution manager), nbrb (resource broker) and nbjm (job manager).

Maybe best to start with 6.0 Release Notes - read the 'What's new' chapter.

I am running 6.5.6 at this time.  The big differences that I have seen over 5.x are:
- No more database inconsistencies!
- Since the media database is centralized on the master server (EMM), media server adjustments are easy
- More stable (fewer application restarts)

If you are planning on making the jump from 5.x to 6.x you need to make sure all catalog inconsistencies are fixed in advance.

Also adding to the difference which I feel equally imp is now we have Hot catalog backup in NBU.

That means catalog backup can be taken any time without hampering NBU services and can run along with other backup jobs.

Also, No more cold catalog backup from latest version...
