Hi All,

I have a NetBackup environment in windows. I was tried to configure blat utility for successful or un successful backup alerts for windows client it worked but unfortunately for unix clients i did not found any helpful document in Symantec guides. If you guys has any KB article or any steps for particular unix systems. Please provide me I am stuck in this configuration.

Thanks in Advance.

As mentioned, for Unix/ Linux mail is sent using sendmail /mailx which is a unix utility.  To be blunt, it's not the responsibility of Symantec to set up sendmail, in the same way no Symantec guide covers how to install the OS ...   which is probably why it isn't in the guides - you can get complete books about sendmail alone, so it is perhaps understandable.

The good news is that once sendmail works at the OS level, as soon as you configure the mail address within NBU it should work - at that point it's very simple.

Unix/Linux clients/servers have 'sendmail' installed as part of the Operating system.

Work with your OS Admins - the moment they can use mailx to send/receive emails as root at OS level, it will work from NBU.

I know how to config sendmail and DNS on Solaris. Never done it on Linux.

Google found quite a number of articles. See if any of them helps:

http://www.yolinux.com/TUTORIALS/Sendmail.html

http://www.redhat.com/support/resources/howto/RH-sendmail-HOWTO/book1.html

http://www.cyberciti.biz/faq/linux-configure-sendmail-as-outbound-submission-mta/

There are lots more...

Rather than setting up mail on each client, we enter email address in the Master - "one and done!"

NetBackup Management > Host Properties > Master Servers

Global Attributes > Administrator email address

Or set up Alerts in OpsCenter.  That's pretty easy too.

@ mph999 I know symantec has no guides for linux installation i have only required that steps for email alert
configuration script that we have written in linux systems.

To configure email alert in NBU, have a look at this TN:
