I have some old tapes that I want to expire and reuse again so I co to the command prompt and type:

c:\program files\veritas\netbackup\bin\admincmd\bpexpdate -ev mediaID -d 0
It askes for conformation and I say yes
requested media id was not found in NB media database and/or MM volume database

The tape is not frozen or suspended either.

Is there any other way to expire the tape so that I can reuse it again?

Thanks

Does the tape actually still appear in the inventory?
Are you sure the tapes have images on them?
Have they already expired?
You can get this message when you try to expire a tape that is already expired or that has not been inventoried into the d/b.

good answer Andy. If there is any valid data on the tape thentt he tape should:
1.show up in the media list
2. have an assigned date

If that is not then case then I suggest running bplabel on it.

Hi,

you can also use this procedure to expire tapes, but you need to use this with caution

first you need to know the volume pool number

execute  install path\volmgr\bin\vmquery -m <media Id>

then deassign the tape from the volume pool

install path\volmgr\bin\vmquery -deassignbyid <media Id > <volume pool number> 0

Caution : Unassigning volumes may cause inconsistencies between the application media database and the volume database, leading to possible data loss.

after this process refresh this activity moniter, you could see the tapes moved to netbackup volume pool and you can reuse them

Srikanth.

Hi,

After trying all solutions which are provied by forum still i have no luck.I think the last solution if the data inside the tape is not needed then only option is to change BARCODE.Since this error occur due to missing entry in catalog backlog. So try to change bar code.If anybody elase having any other solution please let me know

Thx
