Error EC8F17B7: Cannot create recovery points for job: Drive Backup of (C:\).

Hi I’m running Backup Exec System Recovery 2010, 9.0.1.36527 on a SBS 2008 Premium at one of our customers. The SBS 2008 Premium is running in a Microsoft Hyber-V envioment. This works very fine. My backups are placed directly on a Buffalo NAS TeraStation IS, iSCSI, model TS-IGL/R5 F/W 1.01 I’m running a full backup of the SBS 2008 Premium every Saturday. In the beginning there were no problems but suddenly it doesn’t work anymore. One in 20 it works..?? The connection to the NAS device is very stable. But now my backup fails with the exact failure as described in this article: The symptoms is exactly the same. My backup gets to about 94 % and then they fail.. The only difference is that the article is about a SAN drive and NOT a NAS drive. There is no possibility on the Buffalo NAS drive to disable compression. I even don’t think its using compression now. What could be the problem? http://seer.entsupport.symantec.com/docs/354958.htm Error EC8F17B7: Cannot create recovery points for job: Drive Backup of (C:\). Error ED800019: The recovery point file '\\srv1\buffalo\BESR\SBS1\SBS1_C_Drive043.v2i' could not be opened. Error E7D1000E: Unable to open '//srv1/buffalo/BESR/SBS1/SBS1_C_Drive043.v2i'. It does not exist. (UMI:V-281-3215-6071) Details: Source: Backup Exec System Recovery Regards Wilkens

I’m running a full backup of the SBS 2008 Premium every Saturday.

So are you just doing one independent backup a week then?

How big is a full backup?

Can you test backing up to a different location (network share for example) to see if the problem really is the NAS or not?

Do they have any other servers/workstations backing up to this NAS device?

Yes only one independent  backup every week. A remote normal Tivoli backup is scheduled Monday to Friday. This is working OK
The backup file is between 40 and 55 Gb. Have tried to split it up into smaller files - but not helpful.
Yes I can try to backup to an other device. I just don't understand it has been working all right. BESR has been reinstalled reusing old configuration. Live Update does't find any updates to BESR after SP1 . SBS server i fully up-to-date.
No, no other applications or Servers are using this NAS device.

Hi again

I think I solved this case thanks to you J

By combining the AltPerformance1-x64.reg from the http://support.veritas.com/docs/345861 article by splitting up the backup into smaller files solved the matter.

It works by splitting up the backup into smaller files between 100 Mb and 5078 Mb, but not higher.

Although the AltPerformance1-x64.reg should speed up the backup but it doesn’t. Instead the backup now takes 4½ to 5 hours to complete. Before it took about 2½ hours.

But that doesn’t matter at all.. The backup takes place during the night. J

Thanks a lot
