How to use BESR to recover Exchange mailboxes or public folders or SQL databases??

We've just stared using BESR 7.0.

How do we use this software to recover things within Exchange??
Such as public folders, mailboxes, etc.??

What about recovering SQL Server, such as databases, etc.??

Or do we have to fall back to our Backup Exec tapes for this purpose??

Thank you, Tom

Hello,

Backup Exec System Recovery 7.0 supports a new feature called Backup Exec Exchange Retrieve.  The Exchange Retrieve piece is a separate purchase from the base BESR 7.0 product.

Backup Exec Exchange Retrieve allows recovery points (images) created with BESR 7.0 of Exchange servers to be quickly (just a few seconds) mounted and their Exchange DB objects exposed for recovery.

From the Exchange Retrieve interface you can recover mailboxes, emails, attachments, etc from the off-line recovery points.

The Exchange Retrieve option does not need to be installed "beforehand" in order to use it.  For example, if I have been backing up an Exchange server  using BESR 7.0 for several months, and only now decided to get Exchange Retrieve, it could be used to recover Exchange data from any of the recovery points I had captured in previous weeks/months.

We do not have a similar application for other database applications such as SQL.  You can still recover individual file components of a recovery point taken from a database application using features of the base BESR 7.0 product, but we can only open up Exchange DB's for individual object recovery at this time, using the Exchange Retrieve component.

Thanks.

Hi Bill,

We didn't know about the separate Retrieve product.
However, we do this kind of thing so seldom that our tapes will suffice for this purpose.

Thank you, Tom
