Standard and Restore Anywhere fail for W2K Server SP4

I am attempting, in vein, to restore an image taken from a W2K svr sp4 using BESR v8. The original server is a HP ML370 G3 going to an ML370G4. The G4 is running ESX 3.5 and I am attempting create a VM by restoring as a I would do if it wasn't VMware (the VM convertor cannot convert V8 images to virtual disks yet).

 I tried the restore anywhere option, it gets to attempting to detect Hardware and just sits (left overnight!) the standard option (Without Restore anywhere) BSOD with INACCESSIBLE_BOOT_DEVICE. Any tips would truley be appreciated.

Were you able to use the local BESR console on the G3 to convert its image to VMDK to take over to the ESX server? Does a RAO restore work to a test physical box?
