I'm trying to unistall an older version of Backup Exec so I can install a newer version, but I'm not having any luck. The errors I get are either timeouts or 'MISSING_NULL' error. Is there any alternate way to do this?

After working on this, I figured out that the tape devices needed to be added manually through the VMWare Infrastructure Client by editing the virtual machine's settings and adding them all as a SCSI device. This is now resolved.
