0xe000fed1 - A failure occurred querying the Writer status - Exchange storage groups

Hi Guys,

Wondering if you could help me.  I have created a backup job to do the exchange storage groups for exchange 2007, running on a windows 2003 enterprise server sp1 64 bit edition.
However the job fails with the following error messages in the job log:

Completed status: Failed
Final error: 0xe000fed1 - A failure occurred querying the Writer status.
Final error category: Resource Errors

The VSS exchange writer then changes to failed, re-tryable error.
I am using backup exec 11d.
I have rebooted the server and installed hotfix kb903234 but these have not resolved the issue.
Any ideas?

Thanks

Microsoft has confirmed that this is an issue, as of today there is no fix for it, there is only a workaround.  Please refer to this article that explains this issue.

Event ID 9840 is logged when a VSS backup operation fails in Exchange 2007

This is not a Microsoft Problem but a Veritas Problem.

We opened up a call with microsoft who showed us log infromation showing that backupexec was causing VSS errors.

We are still (3 months on) waiting for Veritas to come back to us with a solution. this only occures on certain storage groups.

as a work around you can create a new storage group and move all mailbox's to that storage group till that one fails and so on.

other wise there is always net backup :(
