11d Licensing Question

I have a question about how to properly license the following scenario:

Server1 - BackupExec Server, MS SQL Server
Server2 - MS SQL Server
Server3 - MS SQL Server

We have ordered the following:
BackupExec 11d for Win Servers with Continuous Protection Server - QTY 1
BackupExec 11d MS SQL Server Agent - QTY 3

My question is: Do we need to purchase two remote agents to be able to backup the non-MS SQL data (ie C: and D:) on Server2 and Server3?

Also, are the MS SQL Server Agents installed on Server2 and Server3? Or is the Agent just installed on the BackupExec server (Server1) and it is just a legality to have the MS SQL Agents for Server2 and Server3?

Thanks

Hi Drew,

I think that you do not need to purchase remote agents since I believe they are included in SQL agents.

You have to install agents, it is not just licensing issue. You can push installation from BE console from BE Media Server (Server1) or you can install them from CD.

After you install agents to Server2 and Server3 you will be able to backup files as well as SQL databases.

Hi,

The answers to your questions:

Do we need to purchase two remote agents to be able to backup the ?non-MS SQL? data (ie ? C: and D:) on Server2 and Server3?

-No, the remote agents are bundled with the SQL agents.

Also, are the MS SQL Server Agents installed on Server2 and Server3?

-The serial numbers need to be installed on the Backup Exec media server and the Remote Agents need to be installed on the remote SQL servers
