DELL TL2000 Fibre Chanel & Backup Exec 12.5
Hi, we ordered a Dell TL2000 with Fibre Chanel. It was shipped with Backup Exec 12.5
The Dell TL2000 is connected to the same switch as a SAN.
Backup Exec is installed on a separate System at a Blade running Windows Server 2003 (boot from SAN).
Backup System (Windows 2003 Server), TL2000 and Backup Exec are patched to the actual service patches and firmware.
At the Fibre Switch the TL2000 is correctly identified as “IBM ULT3580-TD3 9366”.
At the Backup System the Backup Enumerator is installed but it seems the device is not connected (no device connected).
Any idea how to fix this problem?
regards & happy new year
Andreas

From what you've written, it sounds like you have not created a zone on the fibre switch containing the TL2000's tape drive and backup server's HBA. If your switch has a zoning configuration on it (which most fibre switches should), then by simply plugging in any new device such as a tape unit will not automatically make that new device be seen by the other devices connected to the switch. Zoning is a security measure that allows you to specify which devices can and cannot communicate with each other on the fibre-channel network.
