A failure occurred querying the Writer status.

Our jobs were constantly failing with CRC errors. After replacing cartridges, SCSI cables and SCSI cards, we traced the problem down to the tape drive itself. We've had Exabyte replace the drive and now we are getting getting backups, except now we get the following errors:

Backup - \\APEXOFO: Initialization failure on: "Shadow?Copy?Components". Advanced Open File Option used: Microsoft Volume Shadow Copy Service (VSS).
OFO: Snapshot error (0xfffffed1): A failure occurred querying the Writer status.

At first it was listing the error on one machine, we rebooted that machine and it started working fine. Then we started receiving it on another machine. All this has been since we replaced the drive.

Any ideas on how to troubleshoot this error?

This error points to a possible corruption in the VSS admin writers. To verifyt this please execute an NT backup if this too fails you need to contact Microsoft to rebuild the removable storage database.Please refer to following technotes for further information:
