Hi!

Have you encoutered this error message:

Event ID 57608

A format inconsistency was encountered while positioning to begin a tape read operation on device "Tape01".

I encounter this error after I have restored files from the same tape, then ran backup (I normally ran backup every 12:01AM) then the notice that the job was still running after 9hours (normally it takes < 1 hour to backup our files) so I've canceled it then this error occur. I've tried cataloging the tape and this error occur:

Event ID 34113

The data being read from the media is inconsistent.

I've replaced tape cartridge but when I everytime restore file, backup didn't continue. Please help me.

Hi,

Please refer to the document below:

Event ID 57608: "A format inconsistency was encountered while positioning to begin a tape read operation on device "%device%"." is reported in the Event Viewer when the VERITAS Backup Exec Job Engine encounters an inconsistency in the data format on the media while positioning to a backup set prior to a restore or verify operation.

Hope it helps.

Sorry for the late response. I have installed the Service Pack 2 and the Hotfix indicated on the document that youve sent. My next problem is I cannot Catalog the tape that made this error and give me this message:

The job failed with the following error: The data being read from the media is inconsistent.

Is there a way where I can still use the tape?

Hello,

It seems that you had cancelled the backup job before it completed. In which case the job log will indicate errors. If a backup is not completed successfully without errors and exceptions it might not get cataloged or restored.

Hello,

I didn't cancelled the job. It automatically stopped after a period of time. For the link that you've gave, it pertains to service pack 2 and hotfix 52 that I've already installed. Note that I'm using version 9.1 rev 4691.
