WORKAROUND for Backup Exec 12.5 and older users:
 1. If Backup Exec Server service is stuck in 'Starting' state :
Open Windows Task Manager - Processes tab - Locate Beserver.exe - End Process - Yes
 2. Go to \Program Files\Symantec\Backup Exec\Data
 3. Rename the XML file to _old.
 4. Right click on that file - Send to - Compressed (zipped) Folder.
 5. Once the process is complete, the original (uncompressed) file can be deleted to free up space on the hard drive.
6. Attempt to start the Backup Exec Server service

This the only workaround to resolve this issue for older version. Also I doubt there could be any development like any HF for the older version. Also the workaround given is safe to perform and will not have any effect on your backups and restores.

Thanks,

hello sush, rahulg

many Thanks for the fast replys.

Since BackupExec 11D is sufficient for our purposes, is that workaround the only way.

Not really nice that the only real solution is an update to version 2010..hmm

best Reguards
