Append is overwriting?

We have an image server that is currently over 2 terabytes. Once a month I backup the entire thing. I split it up into two jobs. I usually run one(overwrite), take the tapes out, and start the other. However, this time I was pressed for time so I decided I would just append the 2nd half to the tapes that were currently in the library, and when I got back, I figured it would be saying I needed to insert media, and I would.

The problem is this..The first half job ran fine. The append started to run fine, but it appears it is overwriting the first half tapes. It never said to insert media. It appears that the append is now overwriting. Why is this happening? The second job is set to append, terminate if not appendable, but it appears to be overwriting.

I have an overland powerloader 17 slot library with 2 drives. Thanks.
