Our SMTP server requires authentication. Is there a way to set this up in BE 9.1?

Hello,

We would like to clarify that Backup Exec's SMTP notification cannot be used with the SMTP servers which uses SMTP AUTH.

Please see the details below:

SMTP (Simple Mail Transport Protocol) is used for the transmission of e-mail on the Internet. The SMTP mail server 'knows' who you are, either because you are within the same network as the mail server, or you have provided a username and password to use it. In your case, Backup Exec and Mail server are on the same network. Since you are connecting to the Internet or Intranet through your own network, the respective SMTP server is able to identify you as an authorized user. This is the principle which Backup Exec uses, therefore the option of username and password are not provided. The only requirement is a valid account on the smtp server and its corresponding e-mail address.
For SMTP servers, which allows the mail server to verify that any mail it is asked to deliver is actually originating from a valid user to whom we have granted mail server privileges, Backup Exec could not deliver e-mail notification. This is because, it does this by requiring your e-mail software to support SMTP authentication (a configurable option in your mail software settings) thereby sending your e-mail username and encrypted password before transmitting outgoing mail. In such case. Presently, SMTP authentication is not configurable in Backup Exec.
