BE 2010 R3 NDMP

We are performing a NDMP dump type backup and would like to know if this works in the same way as regular backups and resets the archive bit for Full, diff and incr backups.

Many Thanks

If you are using backup exec NDMP agent then it doesn't work like normal Full, diff or incr backups. In case of NDMP backup you can specify backup method from Level 0 to Level 9.

Level 0 provides a full backup. Levels 1 through 9 provide various levels of incremental backups. Level 1 backup method backs up new or modified files since the level 0 backup. Level 2 backup method backs up new or modified files since the level 1 backup, and so on.

Just to explain sbora's info

Level 0 on a Friday with Level 1 run Monday to Thursday would be the equvalenet of a Full + Differential backup

Level 0 on a Friday with Level 1 on a Monday, Level 2 on a Tuesday, Level 3 on a Wednesday, Level 4 on a Thursday would be the equivlenet of Full + Incremental Backups

In a nutshell, the NAS device keeps track of block level changes so that it can interpret what needs to be backed up, L1, L2, etc...

There is no concept of Archive bit here as it's typically done at the block or LUN level.
