I was due to renew anyway and happened to receive my new licenses about 30 minutes ago. For some reason, all my licenses, including the original ones I received show up in BE 2014 as "Maintenance" licenses, and it appears I need "Product" licenses.
Can anyone advise on a fix for this please?

The problem was that when you enter a product activation serial number in the licensing window, it adds a license for "Blank" with a quantity of "0". When I saw this, I thought I did something wrong and closed the window.
If I had have just ignored it and pressed Next, I would have found it activates the license and populates "Blank/0" with "Backup Exec 2014/1"
