To backup applications like Exchange, SQL, Sharepoint etc you need to install Remote Agent for

Windows on the respective machine and you also need to import license for Agent for Application

and Database on the media server. Its the license which enables the Remote Agent to backup

respective applications.

This has always been a source of confusion for users.  Physically, there is only one agent, the Agent for Windows System (AWS), to install in any remote system.  This agent has the capability to backup files/folders and Exchange, SQL databases, Exchange, etc.  These capabilities are activated when you purchase and install licences on the media server.  To backup file/folders, you need an Agent for Windows System licence for each remote server/device.  For the rest, like SQL databases, you need one Agent for Applications and Databases licence for each application/database for each machine.

Thanks alot......

When you said remote agent for windows systems works for all windows systems application, what about deploying agent to Linux and Mac systems......Are you going to deploy same agent?

...there is a separate remote agent for Linux. You'd need to purchase this in order to install it on a Linux system.

Thanks!

The physical agents are different. There is RALUS, Remote Agent for Linux and Unix Systems and RAMS, Remote Agent for Mac Systems. There are also separate licenses for them However, you still get the Agent for Applications and Databases license to activate the Oracle capability if you need to backup Oracle on Linux

We're not licensing experts unfortunately, and while versions of BE 2010 were able to use the same license, this might not be so with BE 2014, so factor on applying for new licenses.

Thanks!

If your Symantec support is still valid, you can easily upgrade your 2012 license to 2014 on the symantec licensing site.

You will not be able to install the native 2012 license on the 2014 software
